Trozena Village

West of Limassol, on the border with Paphos, there is a village with practically zero signs of life.

Trozena was a semi-mountainous village, the inhabitants of which were mainly engaged in agricultural activities. Urbanization, and the relatively long distance between the 2 cities (Limassol and Paphos), as well as the inadequate road network, eventually led to the complete abandonment of the village at the start of the 21^st century.

Today, in this 'ghost' village, the only preserved element among the rubble is the small church of Agios Georgios (Saint George).

Ecclesiastically, Trozena belongs to the Diocese of Paphos (as do other villages west of the Limassol countryside). It was built in 1885 and was re-inaugurated following repairs in 1983.

Paradise Waterfalls

Despite the fact that the village was abandoned, its natural beauty remains admirable. Among the wild vegetation of the area, one may find the Paradise Waterfalls. This phenomenon is mainly visible during the winter months, and it is particularly significant, as it generally considered a good omen for the year to come.

The Bridge

The impressive, iron bridge which connects the banks of the stream from which the waters of the Diarizos River flow, continues to serve a number of pedestrians, standing unchanged to this day.

The bridge, built during the British occupation using engineering techniques, materials and designs reminiscent of British constructions, is one of the few that are preserved and still used in this form.

Despite being abandoned, the village continues to attract a few visitors who are fascinated by the traces of life left behind, as well as by the wild natural habitat. After all, the village has always had a connection with the neighboring, picturesque village of Arsos, which continues to house a thriving community, and which offers plenty of options for food and accommodation.

The easiest way to get to Trozena is through the road towards Dora village (highway exit from Erimi to Kantou). Alternatively, the route from Arsos village may include a part of an accessible dirt road, but it offers uncomparable views. The road that leads to the waterfalls is a few meters of dirt road west of the bridge.
