Limassol’s new square is now open to the public on the Old Port road, creating a new outdoor space for walks and activities, just a few steps from the sea.
A midway point between the Castle Square and the Old Port Square, Syntagma Square acts as bridge for pedestrians making their way around the historical center of Limassol. The new square features green areas, fountains, as well as beautifully landscaped areas for people to sit and rest.
The project, which cost approximately €480,000, was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund of the EU, and will be completed with a construction that aims to highlight the protrusion that was unearthed on Ermou Street during the excavations. The construction will include a covering made of special glass that will extend approximately 50cm from the floor.
The square is also equipped with facilities to accommodate persons with reduced mobility who visit the area, while adequate lighting allows people to linger in the square at all hours of the day.
