National Architecture Award 2016 for Limassol Old Port

Limassol Old Port was declared the most Remarkable Architectural Project for 2016. The project was awarded the prize during the ceremony of the State Architecture Awards 2016 held on Monday, November 28th.

The redevelopment of the Old Port was designed by the architect Chrysanthos Chrysanthou. The project includes the construction of offices, restaurants, shops, a large square, pedestrian area and cultural events hall. The construction works of the project were completed on 15/3/2014 and it was officially inaugurated on 8/10/2016 by the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiades.

The award is shared between the redevelopment of the Old Port and the project at a home in Engomi by the architects Ioannis and Giorgos Agisilaou Kalava. The prize for the Project of Young Architectures was awarded to the Chapel of St. Peter and St. Helen the Martyr in Paphos by the Architect Michalis Georgiou. The special prize "Architecture, integrated into the natural landscape" was awarded to the Centre of Environmental Information and Education in Cape Greco by the Architects Marios Economides and Maria Akkelidou.

Presenting the prizes, President Anastasiades congratulated the winners, mentioning that their talent and hard work are an inspiration source for other scientists, not only architects but also those from related science fields.

It is worth mentioning that along with the commemorative award the winners also received a prize of €10000. During the event an exhibition of all projects that had entered the competition was held.
