* NOTE: All the tributes of All About Limassol (as the Official Guide of Limassol) aim to ONLY highlight the special aspects of this wonderful city, so that everyone can be aware of the unique Experiences it offers. Under no circumstances do they have any promotional or nominal value, nor do they serve the interests of Companies, Municipalities, Organizations or Individuals.

Agios Mamas church is located at Louvaras village, around 27 kilometers north to the Limassol city. Louvaras still preserves its tratditional architecture, with narrow alleys, stone built houses with yards and vines, wooden balconies, picturesque single floors and red clay pots in the gardens.

The church was built back in 1455, it is small and located in the center of the village. The expenses were covered by 2 of the richest men in the village, Ioannis Kromydos and Georgios Pelekanos, who are represented along with their wives on the western wall of the temple, next to the inscription with the year of construction. The painter of the church is Philipp Wool, who also painted the interior of the chuch of Atavros tou Agiasmati in Platanistasa.

The church is a typical sample of the wooden roof constructions on the mountains. There are 2 entrances, south and west, while there are almost no windows. The floor is covered with bricks of mud. The interior of the church is fully covered with murals. The murals, according to the inscription on the west wall, are dated back in 1495. A large number of the murals represents miniature figures, since the size of the church is really small, which makes them really interesting. The drawings are a combination of western art and older models of the Macedonian School.

The church of Agios Mamas is an attraction sight for many locals, as well as foreign tourists, who combine a visit with a stroll in the picturesque village and the beautiful Kakomallis forest, right next to it. The tample celebrates on September 2nd, in memory of Agios Mamas.

Even though the murals of the temple have been severely damaged over the years, those still visible on the walls have very distinct elements. The walls are divided in 3 zones. The 2 upper ones have representations with a lot of people in the scenes, in narrow areas. The lower zone has standing figures of saints, in natural size.
