PHOTOS: A beautiful caretta caretta was rescued by swimmers at Aplostra beach!

A beautiful, female sea turtle was rescued at Aplostra (Lady’s Mile beach), where this species is usually found when it is about to give birth to their eggs. The fine sands in the area are suitable for that purpose and the turtles are becoming a common sight this time of the year around there.

The swimmers who were enjoying the sea freshness, noticed the turtle, which seemed to have some trouble in the water. They rushed to it to help and they called some experts from the Akrotiri Environmental Education Center, so as to provide the proper care.

The turtle, the age of which is calculated at around 40 years old (age for laying eggs), was transferred to the Fishing Department, in order to have some tests and receive a treatment. Caretta Caretta is an endangerd species in the entire world and some of them choose Limassol’s coasts to lay their eggs. People’s role is of great importance and for any emergency they should contact the Center in Akrotiri to assist.
