The cave of Saint Barbara is located in the area of Agios Tychonas, a few meters away from the chapel of the same name.
This little cave is a place of pilgrimage for the many faithful who visit it in order to light a candle and pray. Next to the cave are the ruins of an early Christian basilica, one of 5 that surround Ancient Amathus, which took its name from the cave.
The basilica is thought to have been part of a small monastic community, as remnants of the auxiliary spaces of a monastery can be detected in the area, believed to have been erected by Saint Join the Merciful. The only thing that is known about the five-aisled basilica is that bore mosaic décor on the altar.
