Once upon a time… Limassol’s history could begin somewhat like this, with the numerous narrations, historical descriptions and documents drawing its course from 4.000 BC until today. The more these data are, though, the less are the people who actually know about them. To change that, the implementation of the Larger Online Historical Archive of Limassol has begun.
It has been a goal for several years and a wish for all the people that research the Limassol history for years now (as well as for thousands of Limassolians, interested in the city’s history), which now becomes a reality, through an initiative of All About Limassol, Official City Guide, in collaboration with Pattichion Municipal Museum and Limassol Historical Archive, with the grand support by RCB Bank. Limassol introduced a pioneering Project, the first, complete Online City Guide, an initiative of the LCCI (Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry), while now another pioneering Project, the first Online Historical Archive for a city in Cyprus is also starting.
With the kick start of the Project on December 2017, the entire Limassol history, from the Neolithic Era to the modern times, is presented through a modern, online portal, in order to show case the long-term course of the city, its culture and all of the significant landmarks in time, that made it the modern and ever evolving city it is now.
With specialized, online tools for archiving, categorizing and searching, the entire material of the Limassol Historical Archive, as well as the material by researchers of the city’s history, by writers and from private archives, is transferred into articles with specific content on every historical era and historical event that marked the city and countryside of Limassol. Through informative and easily accessible articles, without difficult, academic terms, written in a manner that any reader can understand, with plenty of photos from rare documents of each era, the Limassol history unravels.
The Project “Limassol History” becomes a valuable stock for the future and a guide to those who wish to get acquainted with the history of the area and follow the tracks of a most ancient civilization, on which Limassol was built. Thus, it is a useful tool, both for the locals and the city’s visitors, the young students, as well as for anyone who seeks the identity of Limassol in the centuries past.
Check out here the new large Project for Limassol, with interesting information on its history, form the Ancient Times, to the Byzantine Era, the Medieval Times, the British Colonial Era, to the modern history, from the declaration of the Republic of Cyprus until now.
