Winter's low records on the thermometer in Limassol city and district

With numerous villages on Troodos mountains, Limassol is the district of which many residents are quite familiar with the snow. In fact, in January 1964 the weather station in Trikoukkia region of Prodromos village recorded a temperature of -12.8 °C.

In 1997 the square of Troodos had the lowest temperature ever recorded in that area, which was -12.6 °C. Limassol city, with temperatures usually tempered by the proximity to the sea, did record a below 0 in 1959. Thermometers near the port that year recorded the lowest temperature for a seaside city in Cyprus at -2 °C.

February 2015: The snow on Troodos became international news
In the mid-February of 2015 the snowy weather in Cyprus did intrigue the British Daily Mail. Temperature plummeted at -6 °C and foreigners who know Cyprus for its mild winters could not but comment on that. That particular news piece – comparing the images from Troodos to the ones from Andorras and Austria – underlined that this weather is an excellent opportunity for skiing at the mountainous facilities on Troodos.
