The tradition asks for every January 6^th, at the end of the holiday season and the day of the Epiphany, to be celebrated in the sweetest way, with 1 serving of wonderful, warm donuts. According to the popular legend, demons and goblins, who hang around people’s houses during the holidays, will only leave if they are offered the necessary amount of honey donuts (loukoumades). The legend, of course, is an excellent opportunity to fill the homes, neighborhoods and streets with the amazing smell of delicious donuts.

Central events are always near the sea, where the annual ceremony of the blessing of the waters takes place. The splash of brave swimmers into the winter sea and the race to the gold cross is the main attraction of the day. The rest of the day requires some aromatic coffee and of course the donuts are a must. All we have to decide is where will we eat them and whether we will accompany them with honey, syrup, chocolate or other trimmings.

At the beach
The seafront of Limassol is always a destination for family walks by the sea, near the cafes, from early in the morning of January 6th. Itinerant donut manufacturers and sellers are of course the honorable guests in the area, camping along the seafront, for us to fetch from them the dessert of the day.

In the city
There are several stores specialized in the manufacture of loukoumades and you can visit them to get your own portion.

On the mountains
Cafe Antonis in Pano Platres is one of the most famous destinations for loukoumades.

For those who will be on the Troodos peak and do not want to travel far, usually the cafes and street vendors in the Troodos Square are able to offer loukoumades on the day.
