Around 130 invited personas (from the administrative authorities, academics or specialists) and around 110 people of audience participated in an open discussion in Limassol about the image that the city projects today, with all the large developments going on. The Parallel Cities project asked the people to state their opinions on the projects taking place in Limassol.
The results show that the 130 invited personas were mostly opinionated about the Old Port Redevelopment (in favor), the development at the seafront (in favor), the Lanitis Old Mansion Towers development (against), One (equally in favor and against) and the Oval (marginally in favour). This group, also, identified the old waterfront residential blocks as in need of redevelopment.
The audience was mostly opinionated about the Old Port Redevelopment (marginally in favor), the Limassol Marina (marginally in favor), One (against), The Oval (equally in favor and against), the Lanitis Old Mansion Towers development (against) and the Olympic Residence (against). This group, also, expressed the wish for more open, public areas and green spaces (like the seafront park and Dasoudi), as well as the need for conservation at Agios Antonios area.
Among the most interesting conclusions discussed through this project is that the lack of information pertaining to some schemes, whether that relates to appearance and aesthetics or function and public engagement, resonates negatively among the participants.
