A new traffic study, undertaken by a German house of experts for Limassol, is expected to present its first estimates for immediate traffic solutions by the summer of 2017. Pilot programs will be put in effect before summer, since the problem is already stretched due to the works at the street in the entrance of the Old Port.
Applying direct measures, the Limassol Municipality, in coordination with the Passenger Transport Company of Limassol, is preparing to implement bus route system from the old city center and the seaside, on busy days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So, the days the traffic is growing for popular destinations for shopping and leisure in the old town and the seafront, guests can leave their vehicles in parking lots at some distance and travel by public transport to the seafront.
In this context, the Municipality seeks out for new parking spaces that can accommodate a large number of vehicles. Among the options being explored a possible option is the First City School of Limassol (Elementary School behind the Limassol District Administration), which can be utilized during these 3 days that school is not operating. It is estimated that this space can accommodate up to 250 cars. These measures will be implemented in pilot phase, until the implementation of works at the Old Port street in the summer of 2018, while in the meantime new measures may apply, such as turning Aneksartisias into an 1-way street, depending on the results of the traffic study.
