Seasonal visitors to the area are numerous, since the island is located at the crossroads of continents and countries. These 2 pelicans found in Limassol, at the coast of Amathus, a station on their migration trip on Saturday, February 18th 2017.
These magnificent birds were found on the coast enjoying the sunny day, along with many others who chose the coast for their walks. The 2 pelicans, although quite big, were very friendly. As conveyed by Christos Christou, the photographer who captured with video and photos, the pelicans let people approach them and even played with the kids that were watching them ecstatic.
Pelicans are aquatic, migratory birds that remain in Europe approximately from spring to September. They stay mainly in parts of Eastern Europe, such as Greece, while many choose the delta of the Danube river for their reproduction. They are just passing by from Cyprus and they consist a beautiful and relatively rare sight.
