VIDEO: Barbecue under snow for Limassol’s villages!

The cold did not surrender the weapons, when the February sun came out and the almond trees blossomed. The snow is still present and frozen wind has been blowing for about 24 hours now. Tsiknopempti of 2017 takes place in a winter scenery and, for some, even in a snowy one.

Residents of Kyperounta woke up with snowflakes falling densely once again this winter. The snow gets to cover houses, roads and slopes making it clear that the grills will have to compete with the frost. With the temperature remaining at very low levels since the day before, the only alternative option for those who cannot stand the cold wind for the customary barbecue of the day, is the fireplace.

In the city of Limassol and in lower areas, snow may not have fallen, but the winter is just as present. The temperature, according to meteorologist Erick Kitas, ranges at 4 degrees lower than the usual for the season. Thus, the coals lit for the custom of the day and the alcohol flowing plenty as always on Tsiknopempti (Pancake Day), the first official carnival day, have a dual utility: firstly to create the proper party moon and secondly to rise - even if it is just... locally - the thermometers.
