The first step in a radical change of scenery in the coastal avenue intersection with the Franklin Roosevelt Avenue proceeds with the redevelopment of the network in the region. The new road will have 4 lanes, 2 in each direction, while the parking lot at the entrance of the Old Port will be no longer used as such. The area will be formed into the Syntagma Square, within the projects that will be implemented with structural funds provided to the Limassol Municipality.
The 2 lines are separated by an island which has a triangular shape (green marks) on the east and west sides of the buildings in the middle of this area, which will be used as a roundabout. Thus, vehicles can move in a clockwise direction, both west and east, around the buildings of this area. The big tree at the east will be surrounded by a triangular island, which will ensure the safe movement of pedestrians from the Old Port to the Castle Square with traffic lights (red marks).
The Garyllis riverbed, from the existing bridge up and out to the sea, will be closed and in the river’s place a double rectangular culvert of 180 meters long will be built. The road will pass over the bridge that will be created around the Limassol Marina area, which is marked with pink color on the relevant map. Along this street and along Agias Theklis street, which follows the opposite direction, the plan includes 37 parking spaces for private vehicles on the roadside, 4 for taxis and 4 bus stops.
With the redevelopment, the bus stop at Citizen’s Service Center will be removed, as well as the one at the Old Port. The stop in CSC will be replaced by the stop at Agias Theklis and the one at the Old Port will be reset across the street from the CSC. In several places on the distance of this road, tunnels through buildings for the passage of pedestrians will be created.
The project will be implemented in 6 phases. The first phase, lasting 4 months, concerns the Agias Theklis street.
