The innovations of this carnival is what the organizers decided to bring back from the past and the tradition of 100+ years of the institution in the city. With 2 dates on Saturday, February 18th, the Limassol Carnival will revive traditions unfamiliar to many, attempting to link the present with the past of this great celebration.
In the yard of the Limassol Cooperative Savings Bank, on Saturday morning, accompanied by serenades and mad masquerades, traditional wax eggs, which until a few decades ago were used instead of streamers and confetti, will be manufactured. Wax Eggs Workshop will operate at 10:30, so the elders can remember the custom of throwing eggs and youngsters will get acquainted with it in the most actual way.
Furthermore the Municipality will revive the satirical chariot of the late chariots manufacturer, Costakis Mavrogenis, entitled "All for the capital". The restoration of the modern version of the chariot will undertake his son, Andreas Mavrogenis, while the history of the institution of satirical chariots and the Limassol - Nicosia “rivalry” will be elaborated by the director of the Historical Archives of Limassol, Mimis Sofokleous. The delivery of the chariot to the Mayor of Limassol will take place at the site where it was originally constructed, on Saturday, February 18th, at 19:30.
An innovation for this year's carnival is also the organization, for the first time, of the farewell ball, on Sunday, February 26 at 21:00 in the square of the Old Port.
