Limassol district hit a rainfall record the past few days. Although the rain took a while to make an appearance, it finally did manage to come down strong with 87% coverage of the average price for the month December. According to the precipitation values of the Office of Meteorology, Limassol shares the lead with Nicosia, which records a precipitation rate of 95% on the average of the month, and Polis, which reached the 112%.
According to data from the meteorologist Erick Kitas, on December 21st Akrotiri area hit a top rainfall record with 34.8 mm of rain. The same source predicts that by Christmas the average price for the current month will be covered. Although the flow of water in the dams is still low, because the rain was of moderate strength and the on mountains it fell in the form of snow, according to the meteorologist, the melting of the snow will later on produce a constant flow.
The amount of snow on the Troodos Square is 50 cm and on Olympus 60 cm. On Saturday the weather continues mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms occasionally, mostly from noon onwards. The snow will continue to fall in the mountains, to accumulate at the higher villages of the Troodos Mountains. Christmas will definitely dawn white, as the night of Christmas Eve is about to witness some heavy snowfall and heavy rain in lower areas.
