Parking spaces, a new roundabout and bus stops planned for the new road at the Old Port

Οn January 30th 2017, the contract for the implementation of the urban road project "Connecting the Avenue Franklin Roosevelt to Beach Road - Phase A" got in effect. The project is 1 kilometer long, starting 200 meters east of the intersection of the Coastal Road to the Commandaria Road and ending at the eastern entrance of Limassol Marina.

The cost of the project exceeds €2.5 millions (including VAT) and the onstruction work should be completed within 18 months of initiation. Note that although this project is small in scale and cost, however, it shows a high degree of complexity and many peculiarities.

Based on the facts so far, it is expected to be executed in 6 phases in order to facilitate traffic. The implementation of the first stage, in front of the street Agia Thekla, which has also started, is scheduled to last 4 months.

Following a study, archaeological finds were spotted, recorded, reflected and changed the construction plans. All utility networks were also moved, so as to avoid any damage to archaeological finds during the construction work.

The project includes among others:
-Upgrading of the street into 4 lanes.
-Remove the existing roundabout at the Old Port, but keeping the tree in islet.
-Recommended roundabout with existing listed buildings, located between the streets Siafi and Agias Theklas.
-Design roadside parking spaces, 37 for private vehicles, 4 for taxis and 4 bus stops.
-Lodges through buildings for facilitating pedestrians crossing through.
-LED lamps on street lighting columns.
