From the midnight on January 30th, the 3 companies that entered into contracts with the Port Authority and the Ministry of Transport, officially began operations in the Limassol port. The port has now entered a new era, looking forward to further development of its activities.
The first ship has already entered the premises of the Eurogate Container, to unload and load containers. In the area of DP World, which has undertaken the general trade and passenger management of the terminal station, ships have also entered with general cargo and cars, while the P&O maritime, which is conducting marine services, also has ships at the dock. There were 4 ships in total coming in the port during this first day of operations, carrying 800 containers and cargo of metal and cars.
According to the head of the Port, Panayiotis Agathokleous, the operations in the harbor will be even smoother after the construction work that is in process in the area is concluded. The ministry considers a positive development the merging of 3 charges imposed until now to the companies that use the port for commercial purposes. The President of Eurogate Group, Thomas Eckelmann, said that great prospects and challenges for the company emerge, which expects to develop the Limassol port into an international standards port and increase its productivity.
The CEO of Interorient Shipmanagement (venturer), Themis Papadopoulos, said that Eurogate Limassol has the ambitious goal of the modernization and upgrading of the container terminal. The contract for the operation of the container terminal of the port of Limassol under Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol Limited, is valid for a period of 25 years with a renewal option for an additional 12 years.
