Sunday 18/3 was the day for newborns at the Limassol Zoo. A Royal python hosted on the site bore 8 white eggs from which will be hatched in a while to let the little ones out.
The royal python, which can reach up to 10 meters in length, is a kind endemic in Africa and is not poisonous. It lives in dense vegetation and the conditions of savanna. It feeds itself with various mammals, such as mice and rats, while the female is in a state of fasting while waiting for the eggs to hatch.
The incubation time is 9 - 11 weeks long. This means that in about 2 months the Limassol Zoo will also be hosting 8 little royal pythons. The royal python is classified as a vulnerable species, although not endangered.
