Limassol will host 3 meetings of major global consortia focusing on the research for breast cancer, organized for the first time in Cyprus by the Institute of Neurology and Genetics. The meetings, which will take place between 9 and 17 February 2017, will be attended by more than 190 researchers from 30 countries.
Meetings are co-organized by the Institute, the Breast Cancer Association Consortium and the Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA1/2. BCAC and CIMBA have been the result of the cooperation of top 100 academic institutions and organizations and include renowned scientists in the genetics of cancer. According to the announcement, these research consortia have discovered more than 150 genetic regions that affecting the risk of developing breast cancer.
In Cyprus, it is estimated that more than 550 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually. Cyprus is a member of the BCAC consortium and aims to deepen the knowledge in the field of genetics of breast cancer, both locally and internationally.
