A total of 3.18 million tourists visited Cyprus in 2016. The number marks a new increase from 2015 of around 19.8%. Cyprus becomes, after all, a popular destination for young people, since most tourists are those aged 20-44 years.
A great increase in percentage was recorded for tourism from Russia, with 781.634 Russian visitors choosing the island for holidays, an increase of 49%. Just as impressive was the increase of tourists from Israel, since the number of visitors managed to double since 2015, reaching 148.739.
An increase in arrivals from Greece was also noted, with the number reaching up to 160,254, 15% more than in 2015. The preference of the British for Cyprus did not recede, with arrivals from the UK numbering 1.15 million, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2015, while in total of tourist arrivals they for the year, they consist a share of 36.4%. Arrivals from Germany reached 124.030, which represents an increase of 10.5% compared with 2015. In total, men account for 57.3% of tourists and women 42.7%.
