Men and women will dive in the Limassol winter sea on the ceremony of the Epiphany

With the established ceremony of the blessing of the waters, the festive season will end in the morning of Friday, January 6th, 2017. The holy ceremony will take place at the Church of Ayia Napa and it will be headed by Limassol’s Bishop, Athanasios.

After the holy ceremony at the church, shortly after 10 am, attendees at the ceremony will be led in procession to the dock of the Old Harbour where the Bishop will be diving the Holy Cross within the procedure of the waters’ consecration. Courageous swimmers have already begun to prepare for the dive, as the temperature is expected to be low.

Swimmers will compete in who will get to the cross first. Among them will be women too. After all, the women have a significant presence in the group of winter swimmers in Limassol. Among women who have declared their intention to dive on the morning of January 6th, is also the head of the Club of Winter Swimmers Akti Olympion, Erma Stylianides.
