Limassol’s last farewell to Lukianos Kilaidonis, with a hint of summer cinemas…

One of the paintings of the famous artist of the city, Spyros Demetriades, reveals its history on the occasion of the sad incident of the death of Lukianos Kilaidonis. The great songwriter was one of the most loved and praised by the people musicians, talking about beautiful, simple moments that make everyday life important.

As Spyros Demetriades recalls, inside the historical, summer cinema Giordamli, in the heart of the old city, Lukianos Kilaidonis performed on a live show. For the artist, this show became the inspiration and the impetus to create the painting that represents the building of the cinema. The nostalgia for the beautiful moonlit nights, with the scent of jasmine in the summer cinema, as reflected in the song’s lyrics, was eventually infused in the painting.

So, thanks to the lyrics of the song "Summer cinemas”, was born the inspiration for this work. "Just like the “Cinema Paradise” movie, it narrates how our lives are connected with the experiences of film performances," Spyros Demetriades explains, as he bids goodbye to the songwriter who inspired him so.

Giordamli theater first operated in the beginning of the 1930s and closed at the ending of the 1980s.
