Construction of cycling and sea passage from the New to the Old Port in Limassol is to be designed

With a European fund of €250 thousand progresses the implementation of plans to support Sustainable Urban Mobility in Western Limassol. The project is part of the program for port-cities of Europe, where Limassol participates, along with cities from Albania, Montenegro, Slovenia, Italy, Greece and Spain.

The SUMPORT program (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans in MED Port cities) officially started its work after a meeting of the collaborative countries in Trieste on 7 and 8 February 2017 and the projects will be completed in 2019, with a total budget of almost €2,4 million from which Limassol will receive €250 thousand. The project aims to increase the port-cities capabilities in the design field for sustainable mobility in urban areas.

The port-cities will implement or simulate actions, trying various types of interventions (implementation of bicycle paths - bicycle lanes, development of bicycle sharing system, carpool promotion, integrating IT applications and communications - ICT in public transport systems). The Municipality will soon proceed to the assignment of bicycle lane design and sea connection from the New to the Old Port, as well as the creation of a bus terminal with the aim of upgrading the residents' quality of life, by facilitating their transportation.
