One of the most impressive waterfalls in Cyprus, found across the Caledonia nature trail, is now frozen, creating a magical image with vertical crystals along the cliff. The trail offers wonderful images throughout the year, thanks to its natural beauty, but this view is quite rare.
The name of the Caledonia waterfalls was given by the British (and in particular the Scots) after the acquisition of the island by the Ottoman Empire in 1878. The landscape in the region seems to have brought in their mind the nature of their homeland and they decided to name the waterfall after the ancient Scotland, that is Caledonia.
The waterfall is one of the tallest that we have in Cyprus. The water falls vertically from a height of 12 meters. Apart from the nature trail leading to it, which has follows quite a steep slope, there is also a way to get to the waterfall by car. However, a walk in the snow or even just a winter walk in the trail of Caledonia is really special, since the pictures change dramatically from the summer.
