PHOTOS: What is there really in Limassol's abandoned houses?

Counting more than 1 century of history, the Limassol city center is like a museum itself. The memories, the documents, the traces of people are still around the corners of the streets, on those really old walls, to all those things that are so detached from today, but still look familiar.

When you pass in front of an abandoned building with broken windows and doors, with the artistic, metal decorations still on them, you always accelerate your step to pass by it quickly. Deep down, however, you always wonder: what is there behind this forgotten door? A group of people decided to "unlock" the doors to Limassol’s past and give some answers to these questions, exploring an unknown side of the city they grew up in.

What you can find out on a first glance is that the old houses with courtyards, wooden balconies and high ceilings, can be beautiful and bright even after years of abandonment. It is impressive, of course, to discover inside some basic furniture or even books and manuscripts that make you wonder why would anyone leave them behind.

The house at Ellados Street, in the center of Limassol is just a sample, but every one of the abandoned buildings of the city keeps its own wonderful secrets and unexpected discoveries. If you too want to be a part of the exploration, you can find information on the Facebook page of the organization KEY, Innovation in Culture, Education and Youth.
