PHOTOS: A 'tearing' picture in Limassol is not what you would imagine

For those who live in the city, these images are rather incomprehensible. We need someone to explain them carefully to us in order to understand their meaning. Because people in the countryside live and breathe with them. Some, indeed, live and breathe thanks to them.

The wine and vine products have raised generations of people in the Limassol countryside. The area has produced historic wines, including the ancient Commandaria. Now days, these wines are an important part of the economic activity of the country and they advertise the island on an international level, being nominated and awarded with several prizes. But until the wine reaches the glass, there is always much toil and heartbeat in the procedure.

The vine starts awakening little by little in the spring time from its lethargy and this is the first auspicious sign for the rest of the year. Its "eyes" create a bulge and they eventually open to let the flower appear. Simultaneously, some tearing occurs, with the juice dripping out from the vine sections. The heart of the branches, green and fresh, is ready to feed the precious fruit to be gathered in a period of about 6 months, so that the wine making process can begin.
