Is it OK for children to believe in Santa Claus? A psychologist answers...

Whoever said that they never believed, even for a moment, in the existence of Santa Claus, lied! The bearded saint, with the big smile and the bag full of gifts is one of the main reasons that Christmas and New Year are both especially important, for both children and adults. His love, generosity and kindness is what we want these days to bring us.

Parents and Santa bring together the gifts to the children, so the symbolism of Santa on children's imagination becomes even more powerful, even more realistic. But, how adults should talk about him to children at Christmas time, is not so simple. Multiple positive emotions of waiting for the holidays are associated with the surprise caused by his gifts and this is tricky.

The imaginary world of children, feelings and expectations as to what is real and what is fantastic, the wish of parents to reward and/or punish by offering gifts from Santa Claus on Christmas, will be the subject of a debate coordinated by Lycurgus Theodorides, Psychologist-Psychotherapist.

The discussion is organized at the Baby Academy. To join make a reservation buy sending a message on the Facebook page, by email at [email protected] or by phone at 7000 0072.
