PHOTOS + VIDEO: It is carnival time in Limassol for good!

After an intense preparation period in the past few days, Limassol woke up all set to send a clear message as the city of Carnival and feasts. The grills were all fired up on Thursday morning, with all the streets at the historical city center, with Saripolou Square as the center of attention, being the most popular destinations for the day.

Grilled meats, wine, beers and zivania became the basis for the great spree on Pancake Day, with the entire city focusing around the grill that would not stop providing the traditional meze. From Castle Square and the paved alleys of Zig-Zag and Genethliou Mitella, to Saripolou Square and the CUT, Limassol was a large company of happy and colorful people, dressed in funny wigs, hats and costumes.

The serenaders, well-known carnival personas of the city, this year’s carnival royalty and thousands of people of any age were out in the streets to welcome the festive events of the following 11 days. With the Pancake Day events reaching their peak after the sun goes down, the feast at the old town is merely a warm-up for a colorful carnival.
